I have talked in previous blogs about tools to help keep you and your dental practice productive and moving forward. Things like taking time to understand and write down your goals, and incorporating a project management system are critical to realizing your dreams for your practice. Another important aspect of creating a highly productive practice is your dental team.
Never underestimate the power of a team that works together. While everyone is busy and focused on their specific job, it is important to take some time to come together on a regular basis as a group. Establishing weekly team meetings can help keep everyone accountable for their part in achieving the practice goals, as well as offer encouragement and help when someone is faced with a challenge.
Collaboration is invaluable when trying to find a solution to a challenge or a protocol that isn’t as efficient as it could be. It also helps create a bond between team members, and encourages helping each other for the greater good of the practice.
I have found this to be tremendously helpful within my own business. As a business owner the pressure is on me to keep the company moving forward and growing. I have come to realize that no one can do it alone, having another perspective can uncover a better way of doing things or help get me refocused when other things pull at my attention. This is true regardless of your position within a business. Collaboration is key for continuous improvement.
My team has instituted mandatory weekly status meetings. Even though we are busy and sometimes would like to skip a meeting to focus on the work on hand, we force ourselves to take that time away from our workload. During these meetings we each discuss what we are working on, this helps keep everyone accountable and identify when we might be getting off course from our original goals. We also take this time to talk about what obstacles we are facing and brainstorm how to best overcome them.
No one can do it alone. Make sure your dental practice is providing a way for your team to come together and help each other reach your practice’s goals.
